'Squad' Democrats Vote Against Condemning 'Barbaric' Hamas Attack on Israel
In a historic move, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to pass a resolution showing unwavering support for our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel. This comes just days after the brutal attack by Hamas on the nation, prompting swift and decisive action from our leaders in Washington.
For the first time in three weeks, newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) convened a session to address the urgent issue at hand.
The resolution, known as H.R. 771, received overwhelming bipartisan support, with a final vote of 412-10. This vote sends a strong message to the world that America stands with Israel in its fight against terrorism.
While most lawmakers showed strong support for Israel, there were nine Democrats who chose to vote against the measure, including “squad members” Reps. Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Cori Bush (Mo.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), and Ilhan Omar (Minn.). These representatives have a track record of being critical of Israel and its actions, despite Hamas being recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and many other nations.
In addition, a handful of Democrats, including Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), chose to abstain from the vote, while Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the only Republican to vote against the measure.
This further highlights the deep division within the Democratic party when it comes to supporting our allies and standing up against terror.

The resolution, led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Mike McCaul (R-Texas) and Ranking Member Greg Meeks (D-N.Y.), reaffirms the U.S.'s commitment to Israel's security and calls on all countries to unequivocally condemn Hamas' actions. It also condemns Iran's support for terrorist groups and calls for the full enforcement of sanctions on the nation. H.R. 771 is a powerful statement in the face of Iran's ongoing threats to Israel's existence.

Rep. Tlaib, who is of Palestinian heritage, has been a vocal critic of Israel and its government. In a shocking display of ignorance, she previously denounced a House resolution earlier this year that showed support for Israel.
In her speech, she referred to Israel as an "apartheid state" and accused them of normalizing violence. But as we have seen, it is Hamas and other terrorist organizations that are responsible for the violence and bloodshed in the region.
“The failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation, and apartheid makes no one safer. No person, no child anywhere should have to suffer or live in fear of violence. We cannot ignore the humanity in each other,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) said in her statement. “As long as our country provides billions in unconditional funding to support the apartheid government, this heartbreaking cycle of violence will continue.”

The passing of this resolution is a crucial step in showing our unwavering support for Israel and condemning Hamas' cowardly attacks. We must continue to stand with our ally and ensure their safety and security in the face of terrorism. And with this strong bipartisan message, the world can see that the U.S. will not back down in the face of evil.
