Republicans Join Democrats to Block Censure of Rashida Tlaib

The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday night to kill a resolution aimed at censuring far-left progressive Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. The vote was 222 to 186, with nearly two dozen Republicans crossing party lines to side with Democrats and kill the motion without debate.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., was a response to Tlaib's controversial comments and actions regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Greene, along with many Americans, were outraged by Tlaib's support for Hamas and her blatant anti-Israel stance.

Tlaib came under fire after she organized a protest last month, which resulted in the arrest of hundreds of demonstrators who had taken over the Cannon House Office building. Despite this clear act of lawlessness, Tlaib was unapologetic and even doubled down on her support for Hamas.

House lawmakers voted Wednesday to torpedo a resolution censuring Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) for her harsh criticisms of Israel in the wake of Hamas’s deadly attacks last month.

The effort required 23 Republicans, joined by all Democrats, to vote in favor of a procedural motion that blocked the disciplinary resolution from reaching the floor. The final tally was 222 to 186.

Greene's resolution sought to hold Tlaib accountable for her actions, but in a surprising turn of events, a retaliatory resolution aimed at censuring Greene was pulled from the schedule just before the vote. Republicans have reached out to Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., who introduced the resolution, but have yet to receive a response.

In a display of misguided partisanship, Tlaib's Democrat colleagues cheered as the resolution to censure her was tabled. This just goes to show where their true loyalties lie – with their radical leftist agenda, rather than upholding the rule of law.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., addresses attendees as she takes part in a protest calling for a ceasefire in Gaza outside the U.S. Capitol, in Washington, U.S., October 18, 2023.

Greene, who has been a vocal critic of Tlaib, condemned the 23 Republicans who voted to table her resolution, calling them "feckless." She took to social media, expressing her disappointment in their lack of action to hold Democrats accountable and prevent their dangerous communist agenda from taking over.

Among the 23 Republicans who sided with Democrats was House Freedom Caucus Chairman Chip Roy, R-Texas, and moderate Rep. John Duarte, R-Calif. They stood with their Democrat colleagues in shielding Tlaib from any consequences for her reckless and dangerous actions.

However, not all Republicans were willing to turn a blind eye. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., one of the 23, voted to halt the Tlaib censure, but made it clear that he strongly disagrees with her rhetoric and views on Israel. Walberg emphasized the importance of free speech for all Americans, regardless of their political views, and expressed his belief that individuals should denounce evil speech rather than relying on the government to censor it.
