George Brauchler Announces Candidacy for District Attorney in Colorado's New 23rd Judicial District

On Monday, George Brauchler, a former district attorney for Colorado’s 18th Judicial District, officially announced his candidacy for District Attorney in Colorado's newly established 23rd Judicial District. With a strong emphasis on protecting communities, holding criminals accountable, and upholding Constitutional rights, Brauchler is poised to become a champion for victims and an advocate for public safety.

"I take seriously my charge and duty as a prosecutor to protect our residents and businesses," said George Brauchler. "Our residents deserve an experienced District Attorney and proven leader who will keep criminals off the street and serve as a champion for victim-focused policies and laws that promote public safety, not the current offender-friendly laws coming from our Capitol."

The 23rd Judicial District, which will officially come into existence in 2025, was carved out from the 18th Judicial District. The new district will represent Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties and is set to become one of the most conservative judicial districts in the state.

Brauchler began his legal career as a military officer, serving in Fort Carson, the 4th Infantry Division, and the U.S. Division North in Tikrit, Iraq. As a state prosecutor, he handled major cases such as the Columbine High School mass shooting, the Aurora Theater mass shooting, and most recently, the STEM Academy school mass shooting.

"My public service career has shown me the evil in this world and the need for vigilant, expert, and tireless efforts to protect the good and punish the wicked," Brauchler said in his announcement. "But it has also shown me the best in people and the resiliency of victims, and those are the individuals I am fighting for."

Both Brauchler and his only opponent, Van der Jagt, have pledged to accept Colorado's voluntary campaign finance limits. This means that they are voluntarily restricting the total amount they can spend during the entire election cycle to $102,500.
