Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's car stolen has now been recovered

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston's recent car theft emphasizes the growing problem of crime and car thefts in the metro area. Even the city's top official is not immune to this troubling trend.

The mayor's office confirmed that Johnston's car was stolen approximately a month ago. The vehicle has since been recovered, thanks to the efforts of law enforcement. However, the details surrounding the theft, such as the location, have not been disclosed. According to the mayor’s office, to protect the safety of Mayor Johnston and his family.

Interestingly, this is not the first time the mayor's car has been stolen.

In a social media post back in 2017, it was revealed that his vehicle was stolen from an Office Depot in Denver's Northeast Park Hill neighborhood. This recurrence highlights the ongoing issue of car thefts in the city.

Data from the Denver Police Department paints a grim picture.

In 2022 alone, a staggering 13,743 auto thefts were reported. To put this into perspective, from January 1 to November 26 of this year, there have been 10,951 reported auto thefts. Despite the slight downtick, these numbers are deeply concerning and indicate a significant spike in car thefts.

It’s even more apparent that law enforcement agencies, including the Denver Police Department, need additional resources and support to effectively address this issue.

Increased patrols, enhanced surveillance, and strategic partnerships with community organizations are just some of the steps that can be taken to deter criminals and catch those responsible for these thefts.
