Parent Sues Denver Public Schools for Lack of Inclusivity Towards Straight Students
A parent in Denver has taken legal action against Denver Public Schools (DPS) for failing to display a "straight pride" flag, alleging discrimination against his children.
Nathan Feldman filed a lawsuit on November 10, claiming that his children, who attend Slavens School, are being treated unfairly due to the presence of Pride flags in their classrooms.
According to The Denver Post, Feldman argues that the display of Pride flags promotes exclusion rather than inclusivity. DPS has a policy that permits teachers to display Progress Pride flags in their classrooms, but Feldman believes that this policy should also extend to the inclusion of a straight flag featuring male and female gender signs.
Feldman recounts that he reached out to the district via email, requesting the display of a straight flag alongside the Pride flags. However, his request was allegedly ignored by the district, as reported by The Denver Post.
In response to this perceived lack of inclusivity, Feldman is seeking $3 million in punitive damages from various individuals, including the Slavens School Principal, DPS Director of Operations, DPS Family Constituency Specialist, DPS Superintendent, and his children's teachers.
The school district has refrained from commenting on the situation thus far, leaving many questions unanswered.
