Democrats Equally Unhappy with Recent Disney Movies

It seems that Americans from both sides of the political spectrum are ready for Disney to step up its game and start telling new stories. A recent poll conducted on behalf of Newsweek by Redfield and Wilton Strategies revealed that 36 percent of respondents believe that Disney should focus on creating fresh and original content, rather than recycling their classic films.

Interestingly, the survey found that this sentiment is shared by both Trump supporters and Biden voters. While 40 percent of Republicans who voted for Donald Trump expressed a desire for new stories from Disney, 33 percent of President Joe Biden's supporters felt the same way. This shows that even though conservatives have been critical of Disney's recent content, the desire for innovation is not limited to one political group.

It's no secret that Disney has faced backlash from conservatives in recent years, particularly regarding the more diverse content they have been producing. This dissatisfaction may be a contributing factor to the desire for new stories, as audiences are looking for fresh narratives that break away from the traditional Disney formula.

When it comes to the debate around remakes, the poll found that 20 percent of participants believe Disney should continue remaking their classic films, while 28 percent prefer a mix of old and new stories. Additionally, 45 percent of respondents agreed that the original films contained outdated or offensive stereotypes, compared to 26 percent who disagreed.

Interestingly, a majority of respondents (44 percent) agreed that it is acceptable for a remake to deviate from the original's plotline in order to better align with modern sensibilities. Only 24 percent were opposed to such changes, indicating that audiences are open to seeing adaptations that reflect the values and perspectives of today's society.

Overall, this poll highlights a growing desire for fresh and innovative storytelling from Disney. Audiences on both sides of the political spectrum are ready for the animation giant to move beyond remakes and embrace new narratives that reflect the diverse world we live in. It's time for Disney to listen to the voices of its viewers and deliver the original content they crave.
