‘The Marvels’ faces anti-‘woke’ backlash. The box office flop disappoints.

Disney’s latest comic book blockbuster, “The Marvels,” has been anything but marvelous at the box office.

Despite being a sequel to the billion-dollar grossing “Captain Marvel,” the film starring three female leads has underperformed, bringing in just $47 million domestically during its opening weekend.

But what’s to blame for this flop?

Critics universally have panned the film’s “woke” agenda and fans have claimed the film’s “woke” universe is the real culprit.

Many reviewers have been quick to point out that “The Marvels” has been targeted by “woke” culture warriors who prioritize political correctness over profitability. The film’s director, Nia DaCosta, a Black woman, has pushed back against these accusations, stating she is focused on creating a great movie rather than appeasing sexist trolls.

However, the evidence speaks for itself.

The film has been heavily criticized by popular right-wing accounts, such as End Wokeness and Tim Pool, who have been vocal about their opposition to the film’s emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Even conservative pundit Ben Shapiro has joined the conversation, calling the film “woke garbage” and labeling Larson’s Captain Marvel as one of the worst superhero characters ever.

This is not the first time Larson has faced backlash for speaking out about diversity in Hollywood. And while her previous film “Captain Marvel” proved to be a financial success, garnering over $1 billion worldwide.

But this isn’t the only movie on Disney’s roster that’s clearly gotten the “woke treatment.” The remake of “Snow White,” which has yet to be released, has already come under fire for its modernized portrayal of the classic fairy tale.

Early criticism has accused the film of being “woke” and turning the beloved princess into a “girl boss.”
