The ‘Colorado Forward Party’ Recognized as State's 8th Minor Political Party

The Elections Division of the Secretary of State's Office announced Tuesday that the Colorado Forward Party has achieved the necessary number of registered voters to be recognized as a minor political party in Colorado.

According to the Colorado Forward Party website, their platform is built on values and principles that aim to unite and improve the state and country as a whole.

One of their key principles is "moderation," which calls for their candidates, affiliates, and elected officials to “embrace moderation over polarization, reject extremism, and be willing to compromise when addressing tough issues, electoral challenges, and legislation.”

With the recognition of the Colorado Forward Party, there are now ten registered political parties in Colorado, including two major parties and eight minor parties.

To obtain minor party status, a party must meet the conditions outlined in Article 4, Title 1, of the Colorado Revised Statutes:

  • At least 1 of the minor political party's candidates for statewide office has received at least 1% of the total votes cast in any statewide office in either of the last 2 general elections; or

  • 1,000 or more registered electors are affiliated with the minor political party prior to July 1st in either of the last 2 general elections for which the minor political party seeks to nominate candidates.

The Colorado Forward Party joins other minor parties in the state, including the American Constitution Party, Approval Voting Party, Colorado Center Party, Green Party of Colorado, Libertarian Party of Colorado, No Labels Colorado Party, and Unity Party of Colorado.

Each party brings its own set of values and principles to the political landscape, contributing to the diversity of political voices in Colorado.
