TABOR Under Attack as Hard-Earned Money Slips Away

In Colorado, the Democrats continue their assault on the hard-earned money of the state's citizens. The latest victim of their relentless pursuit of big government dominance is none other than the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights (TABOR), a cornerstone of fiscal responsibility. Under the guise of Proposition HH, the Democrats aim to undermine the very essence of TABOR and rob the people of Colorado of their rightful refunds.

If Proposition HH, doesn’t pass, Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights refund amounts will be at least $628 — or $40 less than anticipated — for people who are single tax filers and earn up to $50,000. The refund checks will be at least $1,834 — or about $150 less than anticipated — for people who earn $278,001 or more.

If Proposition HH passes, the TABOR refund checks will be flat rate and not determined by income levels. Under revised data presented to the legislature Wednesday, the checks would be $832 for single tax filers, down from the $898 that was anticipated.

While initially presented at $898, the revised data now reveals an even lower refund amount of $832 for single tax filers. The Democrats are shamelessly shifting the burden onto the taxpayers, compromising their hard-earned money for the sake of their own political agenda.

The state's excuse for the possible smaller refunds is a larger-than-anticipated number of tax filings. Greg Sobetski, chief economist for Legislative Council Staff, points to the increased filing volume as the primary reason for the reduced refund amounts. With more people filing taxes, the state asserts that it is obligated to distribute a greater number of refund checks, leading to a reduction in the size of each check.

The state is preparing to refund $3.7 billion in revenue that was collected in the 2022-23 fiscal year. Though necessary under TABOR, it is clear that the Democrats view this refund as an inconvenience that impedes their grandiose plans for government expansion.

Colorado citizens must recognize the nefarious intentions behind Proposition HH and the assault on TABOR. The Democrats are counting on apathy and distraction to push through their agenda. It is imperative that the residents of Colorado educate themselves, rally together, and protect the sanctity of TABOR and their hard-earned money.
