‘SNL’ has fun with Deion Sanders
"Saturday Night Live" had a little fun at Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders' expense in its Oct. 14 season premiere.
Veteran "SNL" cast member Kenan Thompson portrayed Coach Prime on the program's "Weekend Update" segment, dressed in Sanders' trademark hoodie, baseball cap and sunglasses.
In the sketch, an over-confident Sanders boasted about his team winning "every game."
When anchor Colin Jost pointed out that the team has a 4-3 record, Sanders claimed his team "has it all."
"Coaching? Genius. Offense? Explosive. Defense? Trying. It's a complete package, man," the fictional Sanders said.

The sketch poked fun at the Buffaloes' double-overtime loss to Stanford Friday night.
"Wasn't that crazy? We were up 29-0 at the half," SNL's version of Sanders said. "So I went home and fell asleep. I woke up this morning shocked as anyone."
Colorado is off next week and returns to the field at UCLA on Oct. 28.
Sanders' Stanley Cup-style victory lap after the game was also the subject of the "Weekend Update" joke.
"I thought it was a Super Bowl victory lap, but then I realized this is college football and we don't have a Super Bowl," the fake Sanders laughed. "Next thing I know, fans are throwing nachos at me. It's like, I'm just trying to get some snacks for the road, ya know?"
The recent loss and SNL's skit has left some questioning if Sanders is the right fit as head coach for Colorado. But the show's creators insist it was all in good fun.
"We all love Coach Prime and his larger-than-life persona. He's a great character to poke fun at," SNL writer Kent Johnson said. "We hope he takes it in stride and maybe even makes an appearance on the show."
When asked for comment, Sanders seemed to take the joke in stride, responding with his usual swagger.
"Let them make fun, I'll just keep winning," he said. "Besides, you know what they say, 'If you can't beat 'em, make fun of 'em on national television.'"
Despite the loss and the mockeries from "Saturday Night Live," Sanders remains confident and determined to turn the Buffaloes' season around. And who knows, maybe a little comedic roast from SNL is just what they need to come back stronger than ever.
