New Poll Reveals Latino Backlash Against Biden's Weak Border Policies
Despite President Joe Biden's attempts to present a positive economic outlook, recent polling shows that Americans, particularly Hispanics, independents, and parents/homemakers in battleground states, are deeply critical of his administration's handling of the economy. In fact, a significant majority of these groups believe they were better off under the Trump administration.
According to CNN, President Biden is perplexed by the public's negative perception of the economy and has been seeking advice from his advisors on the matter.
The latest CNN poll indicates that 55% of Americans believe Biden's policies have weakened the economy, while only 26% think otherwise. Furthermore, his approval rating on handling the economy is at a low point of 37%.
Despite the Biden administration's claims of moderate job growth in recent months, Americans continue to blame the administration for the crippling inflation they are experiencing.
The consumer price index has surged by 17.6% since Biden took office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, while wages have failed to keep up. In fact, wages have only risen by a mere 15% during Biden's term, less than half of what they increased under the Trump administration.
Under President Trump, personal income rose by an impressive 33.5% between January 2017 and January 2021, while inflation remained at a modest 7.8%. This significant increase in disposable income allowed Americans to enjoy a higher standard of living and accumulate savings.
It is this stark contrast that lies at the heart of the public's apparent "disconnect" in accepting the White House's optimistic economic message.
The decline in the standard of living under the Biden administration is particularly evident in swing states. A detailed February Morning Consult poll of battleground states reveals that voters look back favorably on the Trump economy and believe their lives have worsened since Biden assumed office.
According to the poll, Americans state by a significant 21-point margin (51% to 30%) that their financial situation was better under Trump than it is under Biden.
Independents, in particular, are among Biden's harshest critics. Independent women, who do not align with either party, assert that their financial situation was better under Trump by a substantial 27-point margin (49% to 22%).
Independent men share a similar sentiment, with 51% stating that they were better off under Trump compared to 23% who believe the opposite. Moderates also believe they were better off under Trump, with a margin of 11 points (43% to 32%).
Parents are among the hardest-hit groups when it comes to their current financial situation. They express by a significant 30-point margin (56% to 26%) that they were better off under the Trump economy.
Homemakers, who are responsible for most household shopping, strongly assert that their families were better off under Trump by an overwhelming 47-point margin (65% to 18%).
The poll also highlights that Hispanics and Whites share similar views on the economy during the Trump administration. Both groups believe they were better off under Trump by double-digit margins. Whites state by a 30-point margin (56% to 26%) that they were better off under Trump, while Hispanics express the same sentiment by a 24-point margin (55% to 31%).
In addition, Americans trust Trump more than Biden to handle the economy going forward by a 23-point margin (54% to 31%). Both Whites and Hispanics trust Trump over Biden on economic matters by significant margins – 27 points for Whites and 25 points for Hispanics.
While a plurality of Blacks trust Biden more than Trump to handle the economy, a full quarter (25%) still trust Trump more.

Independent men trust Trump over Biden by a margin of 26 points, while independent women trust Trump more by 21 points. Once again, homemakers have the widest margin of trust in Trump to handle the economy, with a staggering 44 percentage points.
President Biden may be wondering why there is a "disconnect" between his re-election campaign's messaging and public perception, but the American people are simply looking at the numbers.
