Knife-Wielding Man Attacks Migrant Encampment in Downtown Denver, 1 Fatality
Frantic moments unfolded in downtown Denver on Thanksgiving morning as a group of migrants became the targets of a knife-wielding assailant. Tragically, one person lost their life in the attack, but their identity has not yet been released.
The Denver Police Department is actively investigating the stabbing, with no arrests made as of Thursday afternoon.
Cell phone footage captured the escalating violence, showing individuals defending themselves against a man who had allegedly been harassing them since late Wednesday night. The migrants, hailing from Venezuela, reported that the attacker repeatedly told them they were unwelcome and should return to their country.
They described the individual as a native Spanish and English speaker of Cuban origin.
According to one migrant, "He came looking for problems."
In response, the migrants resorted to using sticks and knives to protect their group. Despite attempts to calm the attacker, their efforts were unsuccessful.
Initially, Denver Police reported that two individuals had been injured in the stabbing. CPR was administered to one man before he was rushed into an ambulance, as witnessed by FOX31. David Garcia, who witnessed the attack, bravely disarmed the alleged attacker after a group of migrants tackled him.
The homeless migrants told the police that the assailant appeared to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. They also revealed that this attack came shortly after another assault committed by four men the previous night.
