Joe Biden's Popularity Drops in the Centennial State

Imagine, President Joe Biden's reelection prospects seem to look more bleak in Colorado, a traditionally solid-blue state, according to a new poll conducted by Global Strategy Group, a Democratic firm.

The survey, released before the start of voting in Colorado's presidential primary, reveals a significant decline in Biden's popularity among registered voters.

Only 40% of respondents view Biden favorably, while a majority of 58% hold an unfavorable opinion of the president. These numbers represent a slight worsening of his standing since June 2022.

Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates characterizes these findings as indicative of "a presidency in peril." Of particular concern is Biden's declining performance when compared to former President Donald Trump.

Horwitt notes that on every measure compared to 2020, Biden's ratings have declined. Most notably, the belief that Biden is capable of handling the job, a central pillar of his candidacy, has evaporated among voters.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff from Public Opinion Strategies remarks, "It is hard to imagine a more difficult set of numbers before a re-election." These figures paint a troubling picture for Biden as he seeks to regain the support of Colorado voters.

While Biden still maintains a lead over Trump in a hypothetical general election contest, with 49% to Trump's 41%, it is evident that his support has significantly eroded since the 2020 election.

Biden won Colorado by a comfortable margin of 14 percentage points, 55% to 41%, in 2020, indicating a growing number of undecided voters regarding his tenure in the White House.

Meanwhile, Trump's standing in Colorado is also declining, with only 36% of respondents viewing him favorably and a majority of 62% holding an unfavorable opinion. The overall sentiment in Colorado mirrors the national landscape, with Biden's numbers reflecting a downward trend, albeit with a more negative view of Trump.

Despite Biden's waning popularity, it is important to note that Colorado remains a firmly Democratic state. Political analyst Baumann emphasizes that it is highly unlikely for Colorado to become a competitive state in the upcoming election.
