In a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) questioned Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and slammed the Biden Administration for their employment of a pro-Hamas adjudication officer.

“Mr. Secretary what is going on here? Is this typical of people who work at DHS? This is an Asylum and Immigration Officer who is posting these frankly pro-genocidal slogans and images on the day that Israelis are being slaughtered in their beds,” Senator Hawley said. “Has she been fired?”

During the hearing, Senator Hawley, a fierce advocate for Israel, expressed his disgust and disappointment in the Biden Administration’s lack of action against an employee who has shown clear biases and support for a terrorist organization that has killed innocent civilians.

“This is not just about someone having personal beliefs. This is about someone who has explicitly stated that they will bring their personal beliefs into their government job,” Senator Hawley stated. “How can we trust that they will be unbiased in their adjudication duties?”

Senator Hawley’s concerns are not unwarranted. The job of an Asylum and Immigration Officer is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of our nation. It is unacceptable that someone who holds extremist views and supports a terrorist organization would be employed in such a sensitive role.

Furthermore, this incident calls into question the hiring processes and background checks of the Biden Administration. How was someone with such extreme views and clear biases able to slip through the cracks and be employed by the DHS?

It is a known fact that Hamas is a terrorist organization responsible for countless acts of violence and terror. The fact that a government employee would openly support and sympathize with this group is deeply concerning and raises red flags about the administration's stance on combating terrorism.

In response to Senator Hawley's questioning, Secretary Mayorkas cited the ongoing internal investigation as the reason for not disclosing further information about the employment status of Ali. However, we mustn't let this investigation overshadow the fact that an individual with extremist views was hired in the first place.

It is imperative that the Biden Administration reassess its hiring practices and ensure that individuals with a history of making antisemitic and pro-terror statements are not employed in critical government roles.

This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and scrutiny in our government agencies, especially when it comes to national security. As Senator Hawley rightly pointed out, our country cannot afford to have individuals with such extreme views in positions of power within our government.
