Governor Jared Polis Leaves Door Open for 2028 Presidential Run, Ignites Speculation
Governor Jared Polis refused to rule out a potential presidential bid in 2028 during a recent interview at POLITICO's Governors Summit.
While Colorado’s governor emphasized his focus on his current role as chief executive, his comments left the door open for speculation about his future political aspirations and the possibility of a White House run.
It’s not Gov Polis’ first hint at a presidential run. During his state of the state address earlier this year, Polis made a tease to a potential 2028 bid for the White House. “There’s been some buzz about what might be next for me as well,” Polis said. “I’d like to announce that I will be trying out for the Colorado Rockies this spring.” (POLITICO)
When questioned about his plans for the future, Polis acknowledged the demanding nature of his current position, highlighting the need to concentrate on day-to-day governance rather than looking several years ahead.
However, despite being asked multiple times, the Colorado governor remained evasive, declining to disclose his intentions… Something Polis has been know to do often.
While Polis maintained that his primary focus is on serving as governor and addressing pressing issues in Colorado, such as the state's affordable housing crisis, his refusal to rule out a presidential run has raised eyebrows.
This is not the first time Polis has hinted at a potential bid for the highest office in the land. During his state of the state address earlier this year, he alluded to the buzz surrounding his future plans, leaving the audience to speculate about his next move.
Throughout his interview with POLITICO, Polis also took the opportunity to defend President Joe Biden, whom he has actively supported as a surrogate. In light of concerns about Biden's age, Polis defended the president's policies and reelection campaign, aligning himself closely with the current administration.

Polis's refusal to dismiss the idea of a 2028 presidential run adds fuel to the speculation surrounding his political ambitions. As a veteran Democrat politician and the first openly gay Jewish governor elected, Polis's checks-off many of “must haves” on the Democrats candidate wish list.
It remains to be seen whether his focus on Colorado's challenges, such as affordable housing, will take precedence over national ambitions. Many Colorado conservatives hope not.
