Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters' Criminal Trial Delayed Again

Tina Peters' criminal trial has been delayed yet again after she fired her second set of attorneys and hired new ones.

The trial, which was set to start on Friday, has now been rescheduled for July 29 through August 12. Peters faces 10 counts related to a 2021 security breach of her county's election system, including charges of identity theft and misconduct in office.

During a last-minute review hearing before District Judge Matthew Barrett, Carbondale attorney Michael Edminister took over the case from Douglas Richards and other attorneys in Denver's Richards Carrington law firm.

The switch in attorneys came after Peters' lawyers cited irreconcilable differences with their client. Judge Barrett approved the change in lawyers to ensure Peters had representation and avoid the possibility of her being left without legal counsel.

In addition to the attorney changes, Peters informed the court that she has tested positive for COVID-19. Judge Barrett ordered her to submit a test from a doctor by the end of the day Thursday to verify her claim.

Despite the pending trial, Peters has been making controversial statements on her internet TV show, The Tina Peters Show, on Rumble.com. She continues to assert that she won the 2022 Republican primary election for Secretary of State but "lost" due to election tampering. However, official results show that she received 28.9% of the vote, while her opponent, Pam Anderson, garnered 43.1%. A recount, funded by donations to Peters, confirmed her loss by a margin of over 14%.

Peters has also accused the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel of publishing over 700 articles lying about her. She questions the integrity of the media and laments the lack of retractions or apologies for what she believes to be false reporting.

In the face of the charges against her, Peters maintains her innocence and asserts that the allegations are a form of retaliation against her for exposing what she believes to be election fraud.
