Former Denver School Board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson Suspends Candidacy for Colorado House

Former Denver School Board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson has announced the suspension of his candidacy for the Colorado statehouse. Anderson cited the need to "maintain the legacy of Black leadership" in Colorado's House District 8 as the reason for his decision.

According to Anderson, House District 8 has long been a symbol of Black leadership. However, he expressed concern that the primary race, featuring multiple Black candidates, could result in a division of voters and potentially lead to the loss of the historically Black seat.

"This decision goes beyond my personal aspirations and reflects my commitment to the community and the preservation of Black representation in our legislature," Anderson stated in a press release. He expressed gratitude to his handful of campaign donors, and the neighbors he met during his campaign.

Interestingly, immediately after announcing the suspension of his campaign, Anderson revealed his new venture as the founding CEO of a nonprofit organization called ‘The Center for Black Excellence in Education.’ This revelation raises questions about Anderson's priorities and ability to effectively serve in a leadership role.

According to Anderson, ‘The Center for Black Excellence in Education’ will empower black communities and address educational disparities faced by black students. He claims that the nonprofit will work towards reimagining the K-12 education system and dismantling deeply rooted systems of oppression.

Anderson has announced a fundraising campaign with a goal of $30,000 to launch. It is unclear how he plans to navigate the nonprofit landscape and secure the funding required to fulfill the organization's mission.

Critics argue that Anderson's decision to suspend his campaign and immediately launch a nonprofit raises concerns about his true motivations and priorities. Some believe that this move is merely a political maneuver to maintain relevance and establish a new platform for self-promotion.
