Former Congressman Slams GOP's Self-Destructive Behavior

Former Colorado Congressman Bob Beauprez appeared on the Steffan Tubbs Show on Tuesday to discuss the recent political turmoil within the GOP following the removal of Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

During his appearance, Beauprez did not hold back in expressing his frustration with House Republicans, particularly Rep. Ken Buck, one of eight GOP members who voted to remove their own leader.

Beauprez called the decision a "self-inflicted wound" and compared it to passing out "cyanide pills and let[ting] them all commit suicide." The former Congressman also expressed concern about the damage this infighting will do to the party's political chances with unaffiliated voters in Colorado.

When asked about Buck, Beauprez shared that the two had never served together in Congress, but had often been considered in statewide races together and shared a stage at the Conservative Political Action Committee. Buck did not respond to a request for comment on Beauprez's remarks.

Beauprez, who served as Colorado Congressman for the Seventh District from 2003-2007, noted his own experience with tight political battles, having won his first race by just 121 votes, the closest election in the nation at the time.

The former Congressman's and gubernatorial candidate remarks once again showcase the growing divide within the Colorado Republican party and the struggle to unite in the face of crucial national issues.
