False Claim: Colorado Supreme Court Justice Monica Márquez Arrested by U.S. Marines for Removing Trump from Ballot

A recent claim circulating on social media alleges that Colorado Supreme Court Justice Monica Márquez was arrested by the U.S. Marines for her role in removing former President Donald Trump from the state's presidential primary ballot.

However, this claim has been thoroughly fact-checked and found to be false.

The origin of this claim can be traced back to an article published on the website Real Raw News. It is important to note that this website explicitly states that it publishes "humor, parody, and satire" and has a history of posting false stories.

The article in question did not provide any credible evidence to support its claims and relied solely on an anonymous source from "General Eric M. Smith's office," a reference that has been used in previous erroneous posts on the website.

The article from Real Raw News describes a fictional narrative in which Marines are sent to arrest the justices who voted in favor of removing Trump from the ballot. It specifically singles out Justice Márquez, claiming that she "shrieked at the top of her lungs" when the Marines arrived at her home. However, these details are purely fabricated and lack any basis in reality.

The Colorado Judicial Department has categorically denied the validity of these claims. Rob McCallum, a spokesperson for the department, stated that there is "no legitimacy" to the allegations made in the article. He confirmed that Justice Márquez has not been arrested by the Marines and is not in custody.

Despite efforts to seek clarification, Real Raw News did not respond to requests for comment. Additionally, the Marine Corps, which allegedly carried out the arrest according to the false claim, also did not provide any comment on the matter.

The recent decision by the Colorado Supreme Court to remove Trump from the state's presidential primary ballot is based on a 4-3 vote, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. This marks the first time in history that this clause has been utilized to disqualify a presidential candidate.

The decision by the Colorado Supremes has been stayed until January 4 or until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the case.
