Emotional Testimony and Controversial Passage of Gun Control Bill Ignites Outrage Among Second Amendment Advocates
The Colorado State Capitol was flooded with hundreds of passionate Coloradans on Tuesday as lawmakers held a marathon hearing on House Bill 24-1292, a bill aimed at banning so-called assault weapons. This controversial legislation is just one of several gun control measures being considered by lawmakers this year, sparking intense debate and deep divisions among the state's residents.
Witnesses from all walks of life took the stand before the committee, with emotions running high throughout the night. While some expressed their support for the bill, many others voiced their strong opposition, defending their Second Amendment rights and fiercely criticizing the liberal Democrats who introduced the legislation.
The intensity of the testimony reached a boiling point when a pro-Second Amendment witness directed a profanity-laden message towards Marxist Rep. Tim Hernandez, a committee member who was appointed rather than elected.
One pro-second amendment witness caused the committee chair to shutoff cameras and take a recess after she said, “And a special message to Tim Hernandez. You are not elected. You were appointed. Fuck you, you commie tyrant.”
The chair interrupted, “Oh, all right. All right.”
Then undeterred the witness begin to set her focus to dress down the other sponsor of the bill Rep. Epps, “And to your (garbled) co-sponsor.

The overwhelming response from the public led to a staggering 600+ people signing up to testify, and many more were unable to register due to the high demand.
Outside the Capitol that morning, hundreds of gun rights supporters gathered in protest against HB 24-1292. Prominent figures, such as Brandon Herrera from a popular YouTube gun channel, addressed the crowd, amplifying their concerns about the potential infringement on their constitutional rights.
Dudley Brown, representing the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Association, highlighted the significant opposition to the bill, stating that over 200,000 signatures were collected on petitions against it, according to Cowboy State Daily.
Brown's group attempted to deliver the petitions directly to the committee, but they were refused, further fueling the frustration felt by gun rights activists.
Despite the impassioned pleas from Second Amendment advocates, the House Judiciary Committee passed HB 24-1292 with a 7-3 vote along strict party lines, with one Democrat excused. The bill will now advance to the House floor, where similar odds for passage are expected. However, many constitutionalists doubt the bill's constitutionality and believe it would not survive a court challenge if signed into law by Governor Polis.
