Denver Overwhelmed as Migrant Buses Flood the City, Trash Crisis Escalates

The city of Denver is facing an alarming influx of migrants from the southern border, as 16 more buses filled with indigent refugees arrived in just two days. The situation has sparked concerns among residents living near the migrant encampment at Zuni and Speer, who complain about the growing number of tents and the mounting trash problem.

On Thursday, nine buses carrying a total of 341 migrants arrived in Denver, and an additional seven buses followed on Friday.

The city authorities have said that Denver is on track to receive over 100 buses by the end of December. These buses are predominantly dropping off migrants at the encampment located at Zuni Street and Speer Boulevard, causing distress among nearby residents.

The escalating number of migrants is exacerbating the concerns of local residents, with the trash issue being a major point of contention. Beau Blackford, a concerned resident, expressed his anxiety to Fox31, stating, "I just keep seeing more buses show up and more and more, and it stresses me out. If it looks like the tents are coming up here, I don't want to live there. The more that show up, the worse it's going to get."

Initially, the city had been collecting trash from the encampment three times a week. However, in an attempt to address the growing problem, trash pickup has been increased to five times a week. Unfortunately, residents argue that this is still insufficient to tackle the mounting waste.

The trash issue is just one of the many problems posed by the rising number of migrants. The city authorities have assured that they are working tirelessly to provide housing for these individuals. However, this endeavor comes with its own set of obstacles, as many of the migrants are not authorized to work. Consequently, the limited resources available to support them are stretched thin.

To address the pressing needs of the migrants, the city is actively working on establishing an additional shelter “in the near future.” This initiative aims to alleviate the strain on existing resources and improve the living conditions for both the migrants and the local community.
