Last week, while the Jewish community gathered to celebrate the Sukkot holiday at Temple Emanuel in Denver, news of the devastating attacks in Israel shattered their joy. Cantor Elizabeth Sacks, a senior cantor at the temple, described the heart-wrenching feeling of being torn apart in three directions – mourning for the lives lost in Israel, worrying for the safety of loved ones, and fearing for their own community's safety.

The attacks in Israel have taken the lives of more Jews in a single day than any other day since the Holocaust. The gravity of the situation is nearly impossible to escape, especially with the constant bombardment of graphic images and videos on social media. As Sacks explained, parents are struggling with how to explain these horrific events to their young children, who are witnessing the brutal reality of war.
