In a shocking display of ignorance and disrespect, newly appointed Colorado State Representative Tim Hernandez made a series of bizarre remarks during a debate on a resolution recognizing the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hernandez, a self-proclaimed Marxist, insinuated that Dr. King was a socialist and even went as far as suggesting that he would support Hamas in their terrorist war against Israel. These antisemitic comments are not isolated incidents, as Hernandez has a history of promoting divisive and problematic views.

Rep. Tim Hernandez was not elected by voters. Hernandez was appointed by only two dozen Democrats on a vacancy committee several months ago. He faces an upcoming primary challenge for his seat.

During the debate, Hernandez claimed, "Martin Luther King Jr. believed in socialism," using a selective quote to support his misguided assertion. He argued that the United States already has socialism but only for the wealthy, neglecting the fact that Dr. King advocated for equality and justice, not a socialist system of government. Hernandez's attempt to link Dr. King's legacy to his own radical ideology is both disingenuous and disrespectful.

Furthermore, Hernandez falsely claimed that on the day of his assassination, Dr. King's approval rating was below 50%. This statement is not only factually incorrect but also serves to undermine the immense impact and popularity of Dr. King's message of equality and justice. Hernandez's attempt to twist historical facts to fit his narrative is deeply troubling and shows a complete disregard for the truth.

In 1963, standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. waves to the largest crowd ever to participate in a civil rights demonstration in Washington, D.C. where he delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech.

In a disturbing conclusion to his remarks, Representative Hernandez screamed at his fellow House members, that he and the Latino caucus support for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

This overt display of support for a terrorist organization like Hamas raises serious concerns about Hernandez's judgment and understanding of the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Such rhetoric not only undermines the importance of bipartisan support for Israel but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and contributes to the growing problem of antisemitism.

It is essential to recognize that Representative Tim Hernandez's recent remarks are not isolated incidents. He has a history of promoting divisive and problematic views, including anti-Israel sentiments. These statements and actions demonstrate a lack of respect for historical facts, a disregard for the principles of equality and justice championed by Dr. King, and a concerning alignment with radical ideologies.

Colorado residents deserve representatives who prioritize unity, respect, and a commitment to the principles that have made this nation great. Hernandez's divisive and antisemitic rhetoric is not representative of the values that Colorado stands for, and it is imperative that his constituents hold him accountable for his misguided and offensive remarks.
