The push for more electric vehicle (EV) options is gaining momentum in the Centennial State with the opening of the first Rivian showroom in Colorado. This marks a significant milestone for the Michigan-based company and shows the growing demand for EVs in the state.

The showroom, located in Clayton, east of RiNo, spans over 4,500 square feet and has a unique approach to selling vehicles. Unlike traditional dealerships, the showroom is described as a design store, allowing customers to ask questions about EVs, reserve a vehicle, or even test drive a R1S or R1T truck.

This new retail space is just one of the handful of showrooms that Rivian has opened across the country, showing the company's strategic expansion plans.

The significant move is aimed to tap into the growing EV market in Colorado, where registrations for EVs have increased by 145% this year compared to 2020, according to new data from the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association.

With this significant jump in EV purchases, Colorado now ranks fifth in the nation for EV sales this year, according to the office of Governor Jared Polis.

The state's growing interest in electric vehicles can also be attributed to the government's efforts to promote sustainable transportation. In 2019, Polis announced a goal to have one million EVs registered in the state by 2030.

While the EV market is on the rise in Colorado, there is still a long way to go to reach the governor's ambitious goal. Currently, there are only around 98,000 EVs on Colorado roadways, emphasizing the potential for growth in the coming years.
