Colorado Parks and Wildlife Opens Applications for Shooting Range Grants, Promoting Recreational Shooting Opportunities
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has announced that they are now accepting applications for shooting range construction and improvement grants through the Shooting Range Grant Development Program. Established in 2009, it’s the largest of its kind in the nation and has played a pivotal role in supporting numerous shooting range improvement projects across the state of Colorado.
In the upcoming 2024 grant cycle, an estimated $750,000 will be available for allocation, with the possibility of an increase based on funding availability. Archery ranges are also eligible for grant funding.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit their applications by March 15, 2024.
Travis Long, the coordinator of the Shooting Range Grant Program, emphasizes the positive impact that these grants have had on the shooting range community. He says, thanks to these grants, new ranges have been developed, safety measures have been enhanced, and facilities at existing ranges have been upgraded.
Long told the Kiowa Press, "Many ranges have reported significant improvements in membership and usage directly as a result of program investments. This not only helps grow the sport but also attracts new participants while retaining existing ones."
Over the past few years, the program has supported a variety of range improvements. These include the construction of taller berms and backstops, better lighting and electrical connections, ADA accessibility, the establishment of new firing lines and shade structures, and even the development of entirely new ranges. These enhancements have not only improved the shooting experience but have also provided additional recreational shooting opportunities for enthusiasts across the state.

Under the Shooting Range Grant Development Program, eligible projects can receive funding that covers up to 75 percent of their costs. Long emphasizes that "public access commensurate with funding support is an important consideration." CPW is committed to expanding recreational shooting opportunities for all residents of Colorado, and this program exemplifies their dedication to a collaborative approach in achieving this goal.
