Colorado House Bill Seeks to Provide Tax Relief for Baby Products, Back-to-School Items
A new bill introduced in the Colorado House of Representatives would provide tax exemptions for a range of baby and toddler products starting in 2025.
House Bill 24-1027, currently under consideration in the House Committee on Finance, seeks to alleviate the financial burden on parents by exempting certain items from sales and use taxes.

The bill includes diverse types of baby and toddler products that would be eligible for tax exemption. The list encompasses essential items such as baby and toddler clothing, baby wipes, cribs, bottles, breast pumps, bottle sterilizers, strollers, monitors, playpens, safety products like baby safety gates and cabinet locks, pacifiers, teething rings, baby exercisers, jumpers, bouncer seats, swings, and changing tables.
It is important to note that baby and toddler clothing included in the bill refers specifically to clothing intended and marketed for children aged 5 and under. By exempting these products from sales and use taxes, the bill aims to provide financial relief to families with young children.

In addition to the tax exemptions for baby products, the bill also proposes the creation of two 14-day tax-free holidays each year for back-to-school items. These tax-free periods would occur at the beginning of the year and again in the summer, near the start of the school year.
Diapers, both cloth and disposable, are already exempt from sales and use taxes in Colorado since January 1, 2023.
