Colorado Homeowner Discovers Human Head in Abandoned Freezer of Their New Home
A gruesome discovery was made by new homeowners in Colorado last week when they stumbled upon a human head in an abandoned freezer on their property.
The unidentified buyers had recently purchased the single-family home in Grand Junction and were in the process of cleaning out items left behind by the previous owners when they made the horrifying find, according to CBS News.
The homeowners had posted an online notice inviting people to come and pick up the "free stuff" that had been left behind, as reported by a neighbor who spoke to Western Slope Now. Among the items left near the garage was a deep freezer. As they were clearing it out, they discovered a black bag inside. To their shock, when they opened the bag, a human head fell out.
Authorities from the Mesa County Sheriff's Office are treating this discovery as potential evidence of a homicide, CBS News reported.
While limited details have been released about the case, law enforcement officials have reassured the public that there is no immediate threat and that this appears to be an isolated incident.
Wendy Likes, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said, "This is still an active and ongoing investigation. So, there are no other details that can be released... but as soon as we have information, we will put it out there."
Likes emphasized the importance of timely and accurate information, as they want to ensure that loved ones do not learn about the passing of someone they know through rumors or speculation.
According to the neighbor who spoke to Western Slope, a mother and her son had previously resided at the address. They reportedly vacated the property on the same day it was sold. The neighbor mentioned that the son was taking care of his mother, and that the household did not have many visitors.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the individual to whom the severed head belonged. The investigation remains active, and law enforcement officials are working diligently to gather more information and bring clarity to this disturbing incident.
