Colorado Father and Son Plead Guilty in Capitol Riot

A father and son from the Douglas County neighborhood of Highlands Ranch have pleaded guilty in connection with the January 6th protests at the nation’s Capital.

David Tyner and his son Christian Tyner, both supporters of former President Donald Trump, have admitted their involvement.

According to court records, the Tyners have pleaded guilty to charges of Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building and Grounds and Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building on Oct. 26th.

According to a federal complaint, David Christian Tyner and his son, Christian Peter Tyner, were in the crowd of rioters who breached the East Rotunda Door in the U.S. Capitol during an active session of Congress. The Tyners allegedly entered the building at approximately 3 p.m. while wearing face masks, tinted ski goggles and dark beanies.

The charges stem from their actions during the chaotic events at the Capitol on January 6th, which left many Americans shocked at the lack of security and ability of everyday citizens to over-run the U.S Capitol.

An affidavit reveals that the Tyners entered the Capitol through the east Rotunda door shortly after 3 p.m. They spent about 16 minutes inside the building, “causing chaos.” One incident even shows David confronting a law enforcement officer, further adding to the chaos and violence that ensued on that day.

One photo shows Christian Tyner with blood on his face, standing next to his father.

The Tyners claimed that Christian was injured while police were attempting to disperse the unruly crowd from the East Steps, but the FBI was unable to confirm or refute this account after reviewing video evidence.

The Tyners' arrests came after warrants were issued on June 21 and they were apprehended on July 20th.

The father and son duo will face sentencing on Feb. 16th.

In June, a Woodland Park man was sentenced to four years in prison for being one of the first assailants in the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. The FBI has named at least 11 other suspects from Colorado.
