A quiet neighborhood in Colorado was shaken early this morning as a domestic violence situation turned fatal. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call for help just after midnight, reporting that a father was shooting at their mother in a home in the 4300 block of S. Holland Way.

Three children were inside the home at the time of the 911 call.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, all three children were able to escape the home before the father, identified as 54-year-old James Aragon, opened fire. One of the children, whose age and identity have not been released, was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital.

Thankfully, her injuries are non-life threatening and she is expected to survive.

However, tragedy struck as the mother was found dead and the father was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that this is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

As authorities arrived at the scene, the suspect also fired shots at the responding deputies, with one bullet grazing the pant leg of a deputy and hitting his cell phone in his pocket. Thankfully, the deputy was not injured, and no shots were fired back at the suspect.
