While the soaring cost of living leaves many Coloradans grappling with housing challenges and financial strains, out-of-state millennials are being drawn in droves to the captivating allure of the Rocky Mountains.
In the vibrant tapestry of Denver’s residents, as Baby Boomers, Gen X’ers, millennials and Zoomers coexist with little kids and elders who’ve witnessed it all, the millennial generation now claims two-fifths of the city’s population — and its implications are tremendous.
Out There Colorado reported Tuesday that one-in-four millennials nationwide (defined between ages 25 and 44) ventured to a new city last year. Per a new report from SmartAsset, Denver is the fifth most sought-after destination among the 268 municipalities they surveyed.
A staggering 85,380 millennials chose the Mile High City in 2022, while nearby Boulder brought in 10,544 and claimed the #15 slot. Nearly 41% of Denver’s population and 28% of Boulder’s are now millennials.
Colorado has emerged from these dynamic migrations as a haven for those born from 1981 to 1996 — boasting the highest share of millennials in the country, per Scholaroo. So, what is it about Colorado that captivates this generation? Scholaroo ranked Colorado #4 among Top 10 states for millennials. Quality of life and employment opportunities shine bright, clinching #1 and #3, respectively. Health (#17), political and social environment (#17) and personal finance (#18) also contribute to the positive metrics.
